LOCAL AND GENERAL

The outstanding public debt of the Te Awamutu Borough is now £118,270. This was revealed in a review of the balance-sheet by the Borough Council at its meeting last Monday evening.

Acting as a Cemetery Board the Borough Council last Monday evening granted permission to the Citizens’ Association to peruse the records so as to compile a complete record of burials at the Te Awamutu cemetery.

It was mentioned at a meeting of the Otorohanga E.P.S. on Monday that provision existed in the regulations whereunder people could be compelled to take in evacuees during an emergency.

“It has been found possible to obtain prompt approval of authority for the necessary work to proceed,” wrote a Government Department to the Te Awamutu Borough Council last Monday. “But the work cannot be put in hand as the staff is fully engaged,” the writer added. This proviso prompted a Councillor to remark that work from the office chair was not necessarily accompanied by real work!
