FANCY DRESS DANCE
FUNCTION AT KAWHIA CHILDREN ENTERTAINED An auspicious start to the Easter vacation was made at Kawhia on 3rd April, when a children’s fancy dress ball was held in Ward Bros. Hall. The building was filled to overflowing with happy-faced youngsters enjoying the fun to the utmost. The costumes were very original and a varied selection of characters were depicted. No two outfits were alike and all showed great ingenuity on the part of their makers. The evening opened with a grand march by the children, which concluded in a novel manner, all marching into the formation of a large “V” for victory. While thus formed up they sang two songs, the New Zealand National Anthem and “Swinging Along the Road to Victory.” The Headmaster, Mr R. McKenzie, and the staff of the school, had spent a lot of energy in arranging the party and in decorating the Hall, which was arranged with branches of silver poplar and streamers. The music for both the children’s and adult’s dances was supplied by the Aotea Maori boys. At the close of the children’s programme Mr M. Goldsboro’ thanked all present for attending in such large numbers. He also expressed his appreciation of the efforts of all who had helped to make the evening such a success, the takings at the door door amounting to the sum of £22. After the children had been served with supper, the adults took over and dancing was indulged in to a late hour.
