LIVE STOCK MARKET SALES AT TE AWAMUTU APPRECIABLE PRICE RISE The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company reports that at its last sale held in Te Awamutu a large entry of cattle and pigs was penned. Sheep were yarded in average numbers. Export buyers were again operating on all classes of stock, and prices showed an appreciable rise on late rates. Cattle: Mr Lyell K,ay secured top price for a truck of medium weight bullocks, these averaging £lO 7s; the same vendor also topped the market in the female section for a pen of outstanding Polled Angus heifers, these averaging the good price of £9 15s. Mr P. Bourne, Paterangi, secured £9 17s for a quality pen of Shorthorn bullocks, and Messrs R. M. and W. H. Thompson obtained to £lO a head |or their entry. Mr Gordon Walker’s line of fat heifers realised from £8 18s to £9 Ils. Sheep: Our entry of sheep comprised mostly fat and store lambs and a fair number of breeding ewes. mutu yards on Wednesday last, a yarding well in excess of the advertised entry of 400 head of cattle and 1000 sheep came forward. A very buoyant sale resulted in a total clearance in all sections. Sheep: Best fat wethers sold to 255, others 23s 6d to 24s 3d, unfinished 20s ! to 22s 3d. A line of b.f. wethers realised 20s, with small w.f. 2-tooth wethers to 18s 3d, best b.f. lambs sold to 19s 3d, others 17s to 18s 6d, best w.f. wether lambs to 18s 2d, others 16s 6d to 17s 3d, best woolly w.f. ewe lambs to 20s 9d, medium b.f. lambs 14s to 15s 6d, s.m. ewes sold freely from 13s to 14s. Cattle: In the cattle section the advertised entry of empty Hereford cows sold freely from £5 5s to £6 ss, weaner Shorthorn steer calves sold to £4 10s, others £3 16s to £4, best weaner Shorthorn heifer calves sold to £3 10s. Ltd., report on their tri-weekly sale at Te Awamutu yesterday as follows: Sheep: All classes of sheep were yarded in small numbers. Prices in all cases were well up to recent rates. We quote: Prime fat lambs £1 2s 6d to £1 4s, good quality store wether lambs 14s 3d to 15s 4d, medium do. 10s Id to 13s 7d, others 8s 6d to 10s ; 6-year old ewes (running with rams) Ils 6d. Cattle: There was a good yarding of all classes of fat cattle, prices being on a par with recent sales. A pen of medium weight Shorthorn bullocks from R. G. O. Cowie made £ll ss. A pen of Hereford bullocks from Mr A. Murdoch, Parawera, sold at £lO 7s 6d. Mr J. L. Macky, Pirongia' sold a pen of 11 Polled Angus and Hereford heifers for £9, while Polled Angus heifers from Perham and Larsen made £7 10s. Good quality Polled Angus heifers ex Mr T. D. Jolly, Wharepuhunga, made £9 7s. Quotations: Fat wethers 21s to 23s 3d, store wether lambs 8s 6d to 12s 9d, medium ewe lambs 9s 6d to 14s 3d, aged breeding ewes 5s to 9s 7d. Cattle: Competition for a full penning of cattle was keen, boner cows realising full schedule rates. SALE AT CAMBRIDGE Messrs Dalgety and Company report having held their usual tri-week-ly sale at Cambridge on Wednesday last, when a small yarding of sheep and cattle came forward. Pigs were yarded in small numbers. Prices were on a par with recent sales. Quotations are as follow: Sheep: Medium fat 2-tooth wethers 21s 6d, medium white-face wether lambs 12s, ditto shorn lambs 8s 6d. Cattle: Fat young Shorthorn Cows £6 to £6 15s, fat Jersey cows £4 15s to £5 12s 6d, heavy boners £3 15s to £4, medium £2 17s to £3 10s, lighter £1 to £1 10s, light-conditioned Jersey calves £2 to £3. SALE AT FRANKTON Messrs Dalgety and Company report having held their Frankton sale on Wednesday last, as follows: Sheep: There was a small yarding of fat sheep, and this no doubt was the cause for the slight rise in values.
