TRIAL AT KAIPAKI

E.P.S. AND HOME GUARD VALUABLE EXPERIENCE A combined air raid trial of the E.P.S. and the Home Guard was held at Kaipaki, when there was a good muster of men in all the units on parade. At 11 a.m. the warning signal was given. A messenger travelled the district by lorry, and by means of the horn summoned the section leaders to their posts. In the meantime cars arrived at the school and transported the children to their homes. At the Kaipaki Hall, which was equipped as a clearing and dressing station, the women who possessed first aid knowledge assembled. A- lorry was taken over and fitted with stretchers. while members of the W.W.S.A. manned another vehicle and brought in members of the Home Guard who were ‘‘ wounded.” The Home Guard was carrying out manoeuvres at Mystery Creek. Several members were treated, and later Mr A. M- Fisher, chairman of the E.P.S., inspected the work. Finally, the whole parade was assembled on the parade ground, where it was addressed by Mr B. O’Connor, District Battalion Leader of the Home Guard, and by Mr Fisher, who said that mistakes had been made, but those who took part would gain by the experience
