DEBT TO SEAMEN
APPEAL TO SHEEPOWNERS TRUST FUNDS TRANSFERRED The National Patriotic Fund Board has asked the trustees of the New. Zealand Sheepowners’ Acknowledgment of Debt to British Seamen Fund (generally known as “Flock House,” the trustees for the Panetapu Settlement) to appeal to sheepowners for the assistance of men of the Royal Navy, Mercantile Marine and Royal Air Force during the present war. In a circular letter to sheepfarmers, the trustees of the fund state that the moneys originally subscribed, approximately £202,000, have been most capably handled by the trustees, being increased by more than half as much again by good management, and, though over £168,000 has been expended in relief, immigration, training and after-care, the trustees still hold well-invested assets more than sufficient to continue their care of the incapacitated men and widows of the last war on their pension list as long as they live, and to fulfil all promises given to the orphaned sons and daughters of further assistance to enable them to start for themselves when they so qualify. The trustees can see their way also to transfer a sum of at least £20,000, and probably considerably more, to the fund for this war, for which they have obtained the subscribers’ and legislative sanction.
