MRS GLANVILLE WINS AGAIN. The annual Auckland provincial ladies’ golf championship tournament was concluded on the Middlemore links yesterday, v/hen Mrs P. R. Glanville, of Te Axvamutu, holder of the title, was again victorious, this being her third successive win. Her opponent in the final was Mrs S. S. Wilson, of the Auckland Club, and a very interesting contest ended on the 18th green. The golf in the final of the provincial championship was not of the same high standard as in the previous round, but Mrs Glanville fully deserved her success. She has proved that she is the outstanding lady golfer .in the province. Her opponent, Mrs Wilson, played some fine golf at times, and she did well to take the match to the last green. Mrs Glanville won the first hole, but her opponent squared the game at the thirfi. Both struck trouble at the fifth, where Mrs Wilson failed to recover, and she conceded the hole. A good putt enabled Mrs Wilson to win the sixth, and the position was unchanged at the turn. Each played a good iron to the short 10th, which was halved in threes, and Mrs Glanville played a splendid second to the 11th to again take the lead.’ Although neither reached the next green with her second, Mrs Wilson was in a winning position, but she was too strong with her chip and again with the return, losing the hole in 6 to 5.

An excellent tee shot to the 13th enabled Mrs Glanville to obtain a three and become 3 up, and she appeared likely to increase her advantage at the next, where, however, Mrs Wilson holed a long putt for the half. Mrs Glanville played the 15th badly, as, following a long drive, she took 6, her opponent winning with a 5. Mrs Wilson narrowly. missed a putt for another win at the next after a grand third, but she reduced her deficit at the 17th with a sound 5. At the final hole Mrs Glanville played an excellent second to the green, Mrs "Wilson’s ball finishing on the edge of the bunker, where she was unable to obtain a proper stance. Her chip was too strong and she was unable to equal Mrs Glanville’s four. In the semi-finals Mrs Glanville gave a brilliant exhibition of shot production to defeat Miss MacCormick by a large margin. The winner was driving a long ball and accurate iron play enabled her to produce excellent figures. She commenced by holing a lorig putt for a 3 at the first, and then proceeded to win the following five holes to become 6 up. Miss MacCormick stopped her run when she holed a chip shot for a 2 at the short seventh, but her opponent again became 6 up at the turn. Mrs Glanville was out in 38, her card reading: 3,5, 4,4, 4,5, 3,5, 5. Bunker trouble cost her the 10th, but she won the next and settled the issue at the 12th. Mrs H. McDonald (Te Awamutu) and Mrs R. S. Whale (Titirangi) won the Stableford Foursomes.
