NOT ON PARADE
DEFAULTING GUARDSMEN. NATIONAL SERVICE DIRECTORS’ VIEW. The following intimation from the Director of National Service in regard to attested Guardsmen not attending parades was received at the monthly meeting of the Te Aroha Home Guard Central Committee:— “There is no power provided in the regulations to take disciplinary action against men who do not attend parades. As you know the organisation is purely voluntary and there is no means of compelling members to attend parades. The only thing to do with members who obviously do not want to carry out their training is to dismiss them from the Guard, and as a matter of fact, the area commanders have been instructed to do this,” concluded the Director.
