WOMEN’S INSTITUTE

THE PUAHUE BRANCH. Mrs Dean presided over a large attendance at the monthly meeting of the Puahue Women’s Institute and a pleasant and profitable afternoon was enjoyed by all. The main feature of the afternoon was a demonstration of spinning by Mrs Winks, of Te Kuiti, and all were intensely interested. On behalf of the Institute, Mrs Cavanagh presented a bouquet and a beautiful vase to the popular President, Mrs Dean, on the occasion of her birthday. A fascinating demonstration of tatting was given by Mrs McGregor. The competitions resulted as follows:—Best knitted child’s singlet: Mrs Hastie 1, Mrs Mahon 2; singlet knitted with old woolr Mrs J. Parrish 1; best sewn singlet: Mrs Hastie 1, Mrs Skerman 2. These singlets (23 altogether) are to be sent to the Lady Galway Guild. Best marmalade: Mrs Collison 1, Mrs Hattaway 2; best bloom: Mrs Glass 1, Mrs Judge 2. In all, 27 peggy squares were handed in. Mesdames Garrett and Burton were in charge of the sales tables and the hostesses for the day were Mesdames Hastie, Harlock, Hemming and Galpin.
