MOBILE CANTEEN

GIFT OF N.Z.R.S.A. MUCH APPRECIATION. (New Zealand Expeditionary Force Official News Service.) CAIRO, Bth July. In the presence of Returned Soldiers’ Association members serving with the forces, the R.S.A. mobile canteen was handed over to the Y.M. C.A. this morning by LieutenantColonel F. Waite, Overseas Commissioner of the National Patriotic Fund cf New' Zealand. The gift of men who served in the New' Zealand Expeditionary Force in the last war, the canteen will be greatly appreciated by New Zealanders in the Middle East. Amongst those present who had served in the last war were the following, with their old regimental numbers and units given in paren theses:— Lieutenant-Colonel Waite (4/448, N. Engineers), Major J. M. Stewart CF. 38855 Wgtn. Regiment, three* vi-ars President of the South Canterbury R.S.A.), W.O. 11. N. J. McNeill (29641, Div. Signals, Committee member of Eltham R.S.A.), W.O. I. J. L. O. Rowe (Canterbury Mounted Rifles, Committee member of Stratford R.S A.), W.O. 11. Fearon (12/748, 1 Btn. Rifle Brigade, Auckland and Manaia R.S.A.), Major R. V. Closey (12/2979, 16 Waikato, life member, .President Otahuhu and district R.S.A. for ten years). The returned soldiers expressed great interest in the vehicle which was thrown open for inspection while the staff made and served the first cups of tea made in Egypt from the kitchen.
