YOUTH
“IMPRESSIONABLE AND TRUSTING.” “ In Germany there is another man who claims the allegiance of Youth ” (says the Scotsman, Edinburgh). “ He, too, like Baden-Powell, knew that Youth is impressionable and trusting. He took the youth of Germany, corrupted their innocence, forced them from their families, perverted their sense of adventure, filled them with thoughts of violence, and set them on the path to bloodshed, destruction, and despair. “ Herr Hitler thinks of Youth as an instrument to Power, a Weapon for dividing the nations. Yet the Boy Scout movement will grow and expand when the Hitler Youth has crumbled. To have betrayed Youth, as Herr Hitler has done, is an evil and a shameful thing. “ To have served its highest ideals unsparingly, to have won its affection and repect is an honour given but rarely. That honour has come to Baden-Powell, and although he has died when the air is full of conflict and turmoil, his name will always inspire those who work for peace, humanity, and a world fit for children to live in.”
