FAREWELL DANCE. TE KAWA AIRMAN HONOURED. The Te Kawa Hall was well-filled on Thursday evening last, when residents and visitors from neighbouring districts assembled to say “au revoir” to Pilot Officer Neil McLean, who is leaving shortly for- overseas service with the Royal New Zealand Air Force. The function took the form of a dance and excellent music was supplied by the Merrymakers’ Orchestra. Many of the non-dancers enjoyed a friendly game of cards. During the evening Man Foo, the magician, delighted the 'audience with some of his “black magic” and was warmly applauded by all.

Mr J. Wallis, chairman of the Patriotic Committee welcomed Pilot-Offi-cer McLean and Mrs McLean. He said the guest of honour had lived most of his life in Te Kawa and one and all were proud of his promotion in the air force. He was the first local boy to join the New Zealand Royal Air Force, the youngest of the three fighting services. Mr Wallis wished him good luck, many happy landings and a safe return to New Zealand and presented him with a well-filled money belt, with the good wishes of all present. Pilot-Officer McLean suitably replied and was accorded musical honours.

A delicious supper was served by the ladies of the district and dancing continued till midnight, when the singing of the National Anthem and Auld Lang Syne brought a happy function to close. FAREWELL PARTY AT TE KAWA WEST. On Tuesday afternoon, May 20th Te Kawa West ladies gathered at the home of Mrs W. G. Neill to say farewell to Mrs E. Hopping, who is leaving the district shortly, to reside in Te Awamutu. The afternoon passed pleasantly with several ■ competitions and the usual friendly chat. A delicious afternoon tea was served by the hostess, after which she rirade a presentation to Mrs Hopping on behalf of the ladies present. This comprised a beautiful linen tablecloth and a handsome crystal bowl. Mrs Hopping suitably acknowledged the gifts and thanked Mrs Neill for her kindness in arranging the function. Those present included: —Mesdames Thomson, Chestnut, Burton, Moorhead, Harker, McFall, W. Thomas, F. Thomas, Edgecumbe (Thames), Baxter, Hopping, Parkes, Mexted and Miss Alderson. RESIDENTS FAREWELLED. FUNCTION AT ROTO-O-RANGI. Residents of the Roto-o-rangi district gave a farewell dance last Thursday evening for three families, who are leaving shortly. The guests of honour were Mr and Mrs Rickard, Mr and Mrs J. H. Sutton, Mr and Mrs L. Wiles and Private W. Reynolds. Clayton’s orchestra supplied the music, and Mr Ted Cox acted as Master of Ceremonies. During the evening Captain J. W. Peake presented Private Reynolds' with a safety razor. Among those present were: Mesdames L. Wiles, W. Robinson, J. W. Peake, H. Martin, Dahlberg, G. Reid, S. Wiles, S. Wallis, R. Martin, H. Campin, L. Reynolds, V. Looker, Highet, J. Cooper, C. Wood, M.
