TE AWAMUTU POWER BOARD. INSPECTOR’S AND ENGINEER’S REPORTS. The following reports by the inspector, Mr A. J. Tailby, and engineer, Mr E. Bryant, were presented and adopted at the monthly meeting of the Te Awamutu Electric Powei Board, on Friday:— ENGINEER’S REPORT. Poles: Seventy-two poles were carted and seventy-four were erected of which thirty-five were used on construction and thirty-nine were for maintenance. Lines: A low tension extension was erected at Bond’s Road. One hundred and fifty chains of wires were erected and a further forty-six chains were changed. Alterations to lines were made at the corner of Mangapiko and Wynyard Streets for Te Awamutu Borough Council and at the Post Office corner for the Main Highways Board. These alterations were due to rounding off the corners of footpaths. Two additional transformer structures were erected and another was rebuilt. Transformers: Two additional transformers were changed due to load alterations and one which was damaged by lightning was repaired. Twelve transformers had the oil changed, involving the filtering of 1490 gallons of oil. Static Condensers: One static condenser was repaired. It is now about a year since the New Zealand agents were notified oi the faulty condensers and nothing has been done to rectify this matter ex cepting their promises. In the meantime, the Board is standing the loss of the correction through the condensers being disconnected. Power Supply: The peak load to date for present quarter • is 2273.6 k.v.a. at .982 p.f. Street Lighting: Twenty-six street lights were replaced on the Borough circuit and two were replaced at Ohaupo. Community Lighting: Twenty-one lamps were replaced on the various circuits and one light was disconnected. Service Lines: Fourteen service lines were erected. The overhauling of service lines has been continued during the month. Fifteen services were disconnected and fourteen were reconnected. Transport: The vehicles travelled 7856 miles during the period. General: Two voltage tests were made and the usual fault work was carried out. Four radio interference complaints were investigated and three of these were rectified. Further investigation will have to be made with the other complaint. Amended estimates and plans were prepared for a section of the Kawhia Road proposed extension. INSPECTOR’S REPORT. During the period since last meeting the following installations and extensions have been tested and inspected:— Lighting plants, 13; cowplant motors; 3; separator motors, 10; other power plants, 0; waterpump motors, 4; washing machines, 11; shearing plants, 0; electric stoves, 21; electric waterheaters, 30; total for month, 92. With the above new connections and after allowing for disconnections temporary or otherwise, the figures at this date are as follows: Lighting plants, 2563; cowplant motors, 872; separator motors, 456; other power plants, 100; waterpump motors, 735; washing machines, 255; shearing plants, 93; electric stoves, 790; electric waterheaters, 1290; grand total, 7154. Also tested and inspected extensions on 47 lighting plants, representing an increase of 35 lighting points and 34 heating points, 3 waterheaters and 1 otiher power plant and 1 separator plant. Total number of extensions to date, 3769. Also tested and inspected alterations on 4 cowplants, 9 pump motors, 10 lighting plants, 1 electric stove, 6 waterheaters, 3 separator motors and 1 other power plant. I Meters: Installed 75, tested 79, changed 4, disconnected 3, reconnected 4, removed 2 and repaired 0. Enquiries: Attended to 123 enquiries. Inspected 14 refrigerators. Total number of refrigerators inspected 225. Inspected 74 radio sets. Total number of radio sets inspected 1351. Reinspections: During the month the following reinspections have been made:—Lighting plants 86, other power plants 4, washing machines 23, electric stoves 14, waterheaters 48, cowplants 50, waterpumps 42, shearing plants 6 and separator motors 28; total of 311. Also 74 radio sets and 14 refrigerators. Sixty-one installations on which reinspection faults have been attended to were rechecked and recorded. Time’ Clocks : During the month 18 time clocks were adjusted and no new docks were supplied or installed. Special tests were taken on four installations. Reinspection Notices: 117 notices have been sent out, making a total sent out to date of 2095. The reinspection of the Tokanui Mental Hospital buildings and dwellings is proceeding. Further notices have been sent out to consumers advising them that portable apparatus must not be used in any room other than those in which plugs are installed. When used contrary to the regulations portable apparatus can be extremely dangerous. All applications for service lines been checked and permits issued. Kawhia Road Extension: A further canvas of the first portion has been carried out and additional information gained to support the new application.
