POSITION IN OTOROHANGA COUNTY. ALTERATIONS IN ELEVEN YEARS. One of the most interesting parts of the report presented by the chair man, Cr P. D. Crowley, at the,’ statutory annual meeting of the Otorohanga County Council last Wednesday was a set of comparative figures showing the valuations of land in the several ridings as at the Government valuation this year and eleven years ago. The report dealt with the 1929 and 1940 figures as under;,— Honikiwi Riding. Capital value, 1929 £184,139, 1940 £253,528—an increase in the eleven years of £69,389. On the ‘ unimproved values the 1929 figure was £79,768, and in 1940 £73,967, decrease of £5BOl. Mangaorongo Riding. Capital values, £504,800 and £749,225; increase £244,425; unimproved values, £232,182 and £233,383, an increase of £l2Ol. Te Rau-a-Moa Riding. Capital values, £311,751 and £404,331, an increase of £92,508; unimproved values £153,108 and £142,009, a decrease of £11,099. Waipa Riding. Capital values, £326,099 and £412,733, an increase of £86,634; unimproved values £141,145 and £118,451, a decrease of £22,694. Wharepapa Riding.—Capital values, £561,124 and £751,611, an increase of £190,487; unimproved values, £237,088 and £226,702, a decrease of £10,386. The five ridings comprising the County have now a total capital valuation of £2,571,429, as compared with £1,887,912 in 1929. This represents an increase of £683,517. The unimproved values for the whole of the County are now £794,512, a s compared with £843,291 eleven years ago, representing a decrease of £48,779.
