A VALUED OFFICER
CHAMBER OF COMMERCE PRESIDENT. TENDERS HIS RESIGNATION Before the monthly meeting of the Te Awamutu Chamber Of Commerce Council proceeded last evening, Mr R. H. G. Connal made reference to his impending departure from. Te Awamutu, which, of course, would necessitate his resignation from the presidency. This he did with many feelings of regret as he had deeply valued his association with the Chamber of Commerce. Indeed, he could say he regretted leaving Te Awamutu, and a severance of those many friendships which had been so firmly established during his residence here. Looking back on recent years he could trace many developments to the good offices of the Chamber of Commerce and he had been proud to associate himself with a voluntary organisation which had so worthily upheld the.public interest. Naturally he would follow the progress of Te Awamutu, which he felt convinced is destined to enjoy continued development, and he would surely return as occasion offered to renew friendships and watch the advancement of projects so steadily advocated during his presidency of the Chamber.
The immediate past president, Mr W. Jeffery, expressed the feelings of the Chamber when he said that all regretted the transfer of their president. Yet, on the other’ hand, they recognised that it meant promotion—a recognition of service so well deserved. Mr Connal could always be assured of a cordial welcome at Te Awamutu, and that the Chamber would follow on with the. work he had inaugurated. Mr G. A. Gibbs, vice-president, thereupon took over the chair—a vote of appreciation to Mr Connal being duly recorded. Mr Connal leaves Te Awamutu next Tuesday morning, his successor at the Union Bank, Mr H. C. Date, being expected here from Invercargill, on Thursday.
