NEW STOCK ROUTE
TO GIVE WESTERN OUTLET. BOROUGH COUNCIL ACTIVE. For a long time the Borough Council has had in mind the matter of providing a stock route that will enable stock to be kept off Alexandra Street for its whole length. The idea that found most acceptance was to arrange for a route from Tawhiao Street at a point somewhere near the inter-section of Mangapiko Street and leading generally along the Mangapiko stream to a point either on the Paterangi Road or coming out on to Alexandra Street beyond the dairy factories.
The matter was again referred to at the Borough Council meeting on Monday evening, when the Mayor (Mr G. Spinley) reviewed the progress made, and added that there was no need to emphasise the desirability of having driven stock kept off that part of Alexandra Street near the new school and at the railway crossing. An alternative route could be provided. The roadway w’ould cost about £lOOO, and that sum had to be added the cost of the road. There were three or four owners of land affected. A committee should investigate and report.
The matter was referred to the works committee.
