GUN CLUB SHOOT
MATCHES AT OTOROHANGA. The Otorohanga Gun Club’s shoot on the Island Reserve drew spectators and competitors from Hamilton, Cambridge, Te Awamutu, Ohaupo, Kawhia, and Te Kuiti. The principal match was for a dual chime clock and smoker’s stand. There were 17 entries in this 15bird shoot, and the following shot the possible: Murray Pratt; 20 yards; A. Webster, 16; J. Wliske, 13; T. Hall, 13; G. Garvan, 13; H. Wi Carter, 12. In the shoot-off Carter won from Webster on the twenty-fifth bird—a fine performance on the part of both men. In the 12-bird trophy match there were again 17, shooters; and D. Mitchell (Ohaupo), J. Wliske, and W. O’Kane (Hamilton) obtained the possible. In the shoot-off .Wiske won the trophy on the twenty-second bird: Foiirteen competitors took their places in the 7-bird gimcrack event, and the following shot the possible: J. Dobson, 14 to 26 yards; G. Garvan, 12 to 24; and W. Gribble, 12 to 24. They divided the stake. Murray Pratt lost only his last bird off 29 yards. Pratt won the box shoot off 26 yards. There were 12 competitors. In a second box shoot there were seven competitors. F. Cox and J. Dobson each broke five birds to take the sweep money. D. Mitchell won the third box shoot.
There were 18 entries for the flbird event, and the following shot the possible: J. Wiske, D. Kane, Wl Seymour, Gribble, D. Mitchell, and T. Hall. Wiske broke 49 out of a possible 50. The sweep was divided.
The shooting on the whole was extremely consistent, many of the younger shootists showing conspicuous ability. The visitors were generously entertained by the Club.
