ASSAULT ON GIRL
SIX MONTHS’ IMPRISONMENT. Rema Tahatika, a young Native of Otewa, was brought up before Messrs W. B. Bluck and G. S. Neshausen, justices, at the Otorohanga Police Court and given six months’ gaol on a charge of committing a serious offence against a young Maori girl. The charge preferred was one of indecent assault, but in order to bring it within the jurisdiction of the Court it was reduced to aggravated assault. Evidence was given that when the 18-year-old girl had dismounted from her horse near Otewa to open a gate the accused assaulted her. It was stated that he had offended in a similar manner previously.
