BADMINTON CLUB FUNC- • TIONING. The Pirongia Badminton Club began its season recently in the Memorial Hall, and there was a very interested assembly of spectators as well as players. The secretary of the Club is Miss E. Randall, the treasurer Miss D. Rowan, and the committee Mrs A. Shaw, the Misses S. Bell, M, Rowan, and M. Parkes, and Messrs T. Parkes, W,. Hartstone, B. Dixon, A. Shaw, and A. Rowan. The membership at present is about twentysix. Supper for the evening was dispensed by the ladies. FOOTBALL MATCH. A friendly football match was contested at Pirongia’s Matakitaki Park between Te Kuiti and Pirongia players on the King’s Birthday. The home team triumphed, after an exciting game, by 14 points to 6. The visitors were entertained by the Pirongia boys afterwards in the pavilion. LADIES’ HOCKEY WIN. Competing in the ladies’ seven-aside hockey tourney at Hamilton on Monday, Pirongia team played six games, and finally won the Howden Shield (which was taken charge of by Miss I. Sifleet), and each member of the team received a miniature cup. It was noteworthy that Pirongia team went right through the day without one goal being registered against it. The players were P. Siflett, G. Bell, D. Beet, I. Sifleet, T. Butterworth, Ata Ormsby, and D. O’Brien. PERSONALS. Miss D. Bell and Mrs F. Hunt, of

Auckland, spent last week-end at Pirongia as the guests of Mrs W. H. Bell. Mr and Mrs R. Robson, of Huapai, have been spending a few days with Mrs G. Bainbridge, Pirongia. Mrs T. Allan, of Mangapeehi, and Mrs Allan, Snr., of Auckland, spent the week-end with Mrs Allport, of Pirongia. Owing to a leg injury received when playing football last Saturday, Mr Putt BeM, a former prominent Pirongia player, has been out of action, and was unable to to return to his home at Clevedon. Friends will be pleased to hear that Mr Bromell, of Pirongia, and Mr T. Martin, both patients at the Waikato Hospital, are now reported to be progressing towards recovery. Miss L. Owen, of Pirongia, is spending a fortnight’s holiday in Auckland. The funeral of the late Mrs T. R. Mounsey, a respected resident of Pirongia for the past twenty years, took place at Pirongia cemetery on Wednesday, and was largely attended, practically all the residents of the countryside desiring to express sympathy with the bereaved family. Miss Ethel McNaughton has returned to Pirongia after spending a holiday at Takapuna.
