WOMEN’S INSTITUTE
HANGATIKI MAORI BRANCH. The last meeting of the Hangatiki Maori Women's Institute was largely attended, being held at the residence of Mrs Amohanga. Proceedings commenced with the singing, in Maori, of the hymn and creed. The roll call was, “How to Improve Our Institute.” Very many suggestions were considered, and the best of these will be adopted in due course. Mrs W. A. Lee gave a demonstration on nicking, and afterwards gave a resume of the proceedings at the annual conference of Women’s Institutes, that had been held this year at Te Kuiti. It was decided that the Maoris of the Waitomo’and Hangatiki districts would exhibit Native curios, weapons, etc., at the Centennial Exhibition at Wellington, and at the forthcoming Winter SNbw at Te Kuiti. PAKEHA BRANCH. The usual monthly meeting of the Hangatiki Women’s Institute was noted for a most interesting display of moving pictures of New Zealand and scenery kindly projected by Mr F. Johnson, of Otorohanga. The roll call was, “My Birthplace,” and proved highly entertaining to the large numbers present who took part in relating their life histories. Four new members were enrolled, and Mrs S. Board read a report on the doings of the Federation Council. Mesdames Bentley and S. Board were the hostesses for the afternoon.
