RIFLE SHOOTING
PROPOSAL TO FORM CLUB. SUPPORT FROM R.S.A. EXECUTIVE. The prospects of successfully establishing a rifle club in |Te Awamutu district were increased when a deputation, Messrs W. G. Neill and S. A. Ammon, of Te Awamutu branch of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union waited on the Returned Soldiers’ Association executive on Wednesday evening. Both speakers referred to the expressed desire of many men in the district for the formation of a rifle club, and offering support., Mr Neill outlined what had been done so far, and suggested that, if favourable, the Returned Soldiers’ Association should appoint one or two members of its executive to act .with representatives from the Territorials, the Farmers’ Union, and the Legion of Frontiersmen in preparing a draft constitution. Mr Ammon said there should not be much difficulty in promoting a very successful and useful rifle club. The four organisations named would he was confident, be at the back of it, and doubtless individuals who . were not directly connected with either of the four would also be desirous of joining. He asked that the Returned Soldiers’ Association appoint representatives. The meeting indicated its keen support, and appointed Messrs G. Tarr and H. T. Haselden as its nominees on the provisional committee to investigate and report.
