WAIPA HOCKEY ASSOCIATION. UMPIRES’ FIRST MEETING. A meeting of the Waipa Hockey Association was held on Wednesday evening, over which Mr G. R. Lawry presided. Permission was received from the Waikato Association to send a Waipa team to compete in the Country Week tournament. The secretary, Mr Roy Hinton, reported having received a telephone message from Morrinsville asking for two games ! to be played between teams of the iWaipa and Piako Associations either this coming or the following Saturday. As it was felt that there would be some difficulty in getting a full team away under such short notice it was decided to ask one Piako team to play in Te Awamutu this Saturday, and to offer a return game later in the season. The usual club games will be played on Saturday, and the team to play against Piako will be the White Horse Cup team, the Association considering that the opportunity would be an excellent one in which to give the members a game together before going to Auckland. It was not thought that the Otorohanga Club would be inconvenienced by the arrangement, as that club’s A team will play the Colts on Saturday; and the result of the game should not be affected by playing two substitute members in the senior team. Attention was drawn to the fact that many players were incorrectly attired when playing in hockey games, and the secretary was instructed to write to all clubs calling attention to the fact that players must appear on the field in their correct club colours. A cheque was received from the Otorohanga Club for its ground fees, as levied by the Domain Board. UMPIRES’ ASSOCIATION. Following the meeting of the Association, a Waipa Hockey Umpires’ Association was formed, and Messrs C. M. Reed and lan Ross were elected president and secretary respectively, with a provisional committee consisting of the club delegates to the Waipa Association. The next meeting, to determine the constitution of the Association, will be held when the secretary has obtained information from the Waikato Hockey Umpires’ Association concerning obligations regarding affiliation and advisable relationship with the Waipa Hockey Association. The meeting met with the unqualified support of the m,embers of the Hockey Association who were present. The object of the new body will be as much to interest players in a knowledge of the rules of the game as to obtain correct and uniform interpretations among umpires themselves. A short discussion took place on the rules, and it was the unanimous opinion that -an early endeavour should be made to acquaint all players with the rule governing obstruction, which was most frequently unobserved and misunderstood in local gamesREPRESENTATIVE FIXTURES. Arrangements have been finalised for the playing of two representative games with Piako to-morrow. Both the ladies’ and men’s Waipa teams will meet Piako at Albert Park at 2.30. The ordinary club games will be played beforehand in the case of the men’s teams at 1.30. The men’s team will be as follows: T. Wilson, J. Sinnott, V. Hawkins, R. Hutson, P. Brown, R. Spiers, I. Shaw, K. Lawry, C. Taylor, J. Smith, M. Webber, and emergencies J. Finn, R. Thompson,. A. Sherley and J. Jourdain.
