TO POKURU RESIDENTS. The Kakepuku Hall was well filled on Monday evening with settlers and other well-wishers, who had assembled to bid farewell to Mr and Mrs “Tim” Wenham, who are leaving the district after several years’ residence Dancing was a popular feature of the evening, and the floor was in excellent order. Mr Dick Jones was a capable master of ceremonies, and the music was supplied by Messrs Neil Paul (guitar) and K. Walker (piano accordian), extras being supplied by Mr D. Fraser. The ladies dispensed a tasty supper. During an interval in, the dancing Mr S. H. West, in a few well-chosen words, asked the guests of the evening to accept a beautiful travelling rug, with all the good wishes of their many friends in Pokuru for continued good health and happiness. After musical honours had been accorded, Mr Wenham made an appropriate acknowledgment. Dancing was resumed, and much appreciated voeal numbers were contributed by Messrs Walker and Paul, encores being insisted upon. Midnight came all too soon, and then all joined insinging “Auld Lang Syne” and the National Anthem.
