NATIONAL DANCING
A* the Auck’and Show last Friday evening several South Auckland and district competitors took part in the national dancing competitions. In the class for sword dancers under 13 years of are Eddie Smith (Te Awamutu) was first, M. Gulland (Pokeno) second, and D. Gulland third. In the sailor’s hornpipe, D. Gulland secured a third placing. Qn Saturday the competitions were continued, and in the Highland Fling (under seven years) Colleen Campbe 1. of Hamilton was second. and Gordon Smith, of Pio Pio, third. Colleen Campbell won the. class for Irish jig, under seven years. Elaine North, of Te Awamutu, was third in the class for Highland fling, under nine years and third for Irish jig, under nine years, while she also* won the class for seantriubhas under eleven years. Thus Elaine gained three placings in the only three classes in which she competed.
