A PATERANGI PARTY. IN HONOUR OF A BRIDE-TO-BE A very happy party was given by Miss Mavis Macky and Miss Cath. Gramann, on Monday afternoon last, at Mrs S. C. Macky’s residence, Paterangi, when the guest of honour was Miss Gladdie Ryburn. About thirty friends assembled, and the bright fire and effectively decorated room (bowls of autumn foliage and chrysanthemums were featured) made a very cosy setting. Miss Macky, in a neat speech, asked the guest of honour to accept a bronze fireside set and a cookery book in which all present wrote a recipe, with their best wishes for a happy married life. Miss Germann also presented Miss Ryburn with a posy of red flowers, and Miss Ryburn expressed her sincere thanks in a happy little speech. A tasty afternoon tea was served. Competitions and other games proved interesting. A clever competition was won by MGss E. Shaw, and a clock golf contest by Miss Ryburn. KITCHEN EVENING. BRIDE-TO-BE HONOURED. The meeting took the form of a kitchen evening and a large table was soon piled with parcels obviously containing a great assortment of useful gifts from individual members. A handsome oak Mantel Clock was presented by the Lodge as a body. Dancing (to an excellent orchestra) interspersed with other items provided the entertainment. Past Arch Bro. F. Aldridge was in excellent voice singling “Nirvana,” and as an encore gave a fine rendering of “Until.” Mr and Mrs N. Winch contributed a duet on the piano in their usual excellent style, while a novelty was Swiss Harmony and Yodelling by the Steiner family. Sister E.
