ROADWAYS BLOCKED

“DUMPING" OF OLD CARS. BOROUGH COUNCIL TO TAKE ACTION. The Works Committee, reporting to the Te Awamutu Borough Council on Monday evening, recommended that parking of vehicles be completely forbidden in Arawata and Mahoe Streets. Cr Rainey asked as to the restriction on parking in Arawata Street. Mahoe Street was in a disgraceful state. The Mayor said the intention was to prevent “dumping’’ of cars? Cr Rainey said it seemed the workmen of a neighbouring garage were using the street for motor wrecking purposes. Cr Maxwell said Mahoe Street had been congested with stationary vehicles for many months. The Mayor said the practice would have to stop. The firm responsible had been granted leniency in view of building operations, but seemingly there was no intention to rectify the trouble, unless the Council forced the position. He quite agreed that there was danger, especially now that Mahoe Street is being used as a detour for Great South Road traffic. He had been told of an accident to a lady cyclist one evening recently; she had her cycle lamp operating but had tumped into an unlighted motor car parked there. The position was intolerable. There was no reasonable excuse, and action should be taken to force owners of vehicles to observe the by-laws.
