MEETING OF TOWN BOARD. The ordinary monthly meeting of the above was held on Thursday evening, when there were present Commissioners F. O. R. Phillips (chairman), A. F. Grey, R. T. Rhodes, C. Jackson, A. J. McCready, H. A. Lawrence, R. Bell and P. H. Gosse (town clerk and engineer). It was decided to grant the request of Bremner Bros, for a vehicular crossing in front of their business premises. The request for a new footpath to the school was not considered an urgent work, therefore it is left in abeyance. A communication from the Putaluru Town Board regarding performing rights was left tor the chairman to deal with. A permit w.as granted to the proprietor of the Commercial Hotel, to perfect his sanitary arrangements, subject to the approval of the health officer and the removal of certain existing buildings. A communication front the health inspector regarding accumulated rubbish in back yards was considered. It was decided to instruct the town clerk to prepare a systematic service for the regular removal of rubbish, and place tile same before the Works Committee for approval. The Commissioner of Crown Lands advised that lot 2 of section 12, block HI, Orahiri S.D., has now been gazetted, permanently reserving the area lor water conservation purposes. The Te Kuiti Municipal Band advised that after inspection of the Otorohanga Band instruments, it was de cided not to make any offer for their purchase. The Director of Housing Construction advised that the Department were busily engaged in preparing schemes for a large number of towns with larger populations than Otorohanga, and consequently it will be some time before any consideration can be given to the request for State housing at Otorohanga. It was pointed out by the Director that the Government had made the sum of £1,500,000 available for lending to local authorities at 3 per cent for housing purposes. If the Town Board is anxious to get a housingscheme going he suggested that they might take advantage of the provision which the Government has made. Full details of the scheme are available from the State Advances Corporation. Com. A. J. McCready was delegated to select a parking site for motor vehicles, and to report to the next meeting. The engineer’s report disclosed that tlie various works, favoured by • fine weather conditions, were proceeding in a satisfactory manner. The receipts since last meeting amounted to £430 16s 7<l. Tile principal sources of revenue were: Municipal Pictures £253 16s, hall hire £l2 10s, licenses £l5 3s and miscellaneous £143 6s 7d; cash in hand £34 3s, and cr balance £494 14s. A large amount of the usual routine work was transacted, and accounts amounting to £431 7s 7d were passed for payment.
