PEDIGREE JERSEYS

SOME CHOICE BLOOD. PURCHASED FOR TE AWAMUTU DISTRICT. The purchases made by Mr J. G. Holmes at “Tauwhare” sale of pedigree Jersey stud stock in North Auckland reached Te Awamutu on Friday. The “Tauwhare” Stud was established by the late Dr Casement Aickin, of Auckland, who did not spare expense when building up his stud into one of the most important in the whole Dominion. The cattle are to form part of the local “H. 0. stud, and they number 47 head, including the bulls Brampton Beauty’s Standard (imp.). Brampton Design’s Bob (imp.), Tauwhare Beautiful King, by Oxford Beau’s Combination (imp.) and sold in New Zealand for 2003 guineas, from Tauwhare Gloria V.H.C. C.0.R., 603 lbs. of fat at three years; and Tauwhare Cid’s Ensign, by Brampton Beauty’s Standard (imp.) from Tauwhare Gloria, V.H.C., C.0.R., 603 lbs fat at three years, winner of numerous prizes and championships. The females acquired by Mr Holmes include Pencarrow Princess Daisy, which has 100 per cent, imported blood —in fact most of the females are by imported sires, and in many cases they contain imported blood throughout the pedigrees with daughters from V.H.C. cows. The total price for these selections was, of course, considerable, but Mr Holmes was determined to secure the best available, and thus he had to bid high. The blood lines that these animals will bring into the Te Awa mutu district will have a very strong influence in raising the butterfat and the type standard of both studs and district dairies. During the week-end a privilege of inspecting the newcomers was availed of, and the animals much admired. .
