Mr Rollett, of the Bank of New Zealand staff at Te Kuiti, is now relieving at the Otorohanga branch. Mrs J. H. Dawson, of Palmerston North, was a visitor to Te Awamutu friends during the week-end. Mrs W. Johnson, of Eighth Avenue, Tauranga, is visiting relatives in the King Country, her headquarters being Te Kuiti. Mrs B. F. Morris, of Puniu Road, has sufficiently recovered from a recent operation to return home to-day from hospital. Misses Betty and Margaret, daughters of Dr and Mrs Will, formerly of Te Kuiti, are visiting Mr and Mrs Tarrant, of VVaitomo Caves.

Mr I F A. Quin, formerly of Otorohanga, but now of Pokeno, has received notice of his appointment to the charge of the Mokauiti post office.

Miss Frances Brooks, of the nursing staff of St. Mary's Homes, Otahuhu, is spending a fortnight’s vacation with her parents, Puniu Road.

Miss G. Irwin, formerly of Te Awamutu, who has been spending about eighteen months in England, returned to Auckland on Friday last by the Arawa.

Mrs T. Ferguson, of Ohaupo Road, who has been a patient in a local private hospital for the past two or three weeks, was well enough to return home yesterday.

Mr and Mrs J. F. Brooks, who have been spending two months in Auckland for Mr Brooks’ health, returned tiome on Friday. Though not yet able to resume his usual duties, Mr Brooks is considerably improved in health.

The engagement is announced ol Betty Mary Madeleine, the eldet daughter of Mr and Mrs Arthur S Gresham, of Te Kuiti, to Eric Arthur the elder son of Mr and Mrs A. T Brainsby, of Whangarei, Northland.

His many friends will learn with regret that Mr W. Long, of Kihikihi Road and formerly of Hairini, is ir. a local private hospital, and that his health is very unsatisfactory, though there are hopes that he will soon be on the road to complete recovery.

Listeners-in on Saturday night report that at the Brisbane Bohemian Stadium Bob King, of New Zealand, beat Paul Engel, of Germany, by two falls to one. They were also interested to hear “Bill” Bayne announce that next Saturday evening he is to meet Von Cramer, billed as the champion of Europe (light-heavyweight), and then he will have three weeks intensive training prior to leaving tor South Africa to engage in a series ot matches there.

A message from Mr W. McGee, who represents Orakau Riding, was reaa at to-day’s meeting of the Waipa County Council. It was dated May 26th, and posted from New York. Mi McGee, who is on an extended holiday tour, of the world, mentions that he is thoroughly enjoying the trip, which is full of interest. He adds that so far he has not seen any part of the world that appeals to him so much as the Waikato as a farming country. Mr McGee said he intended leaving Quebec for England in a couple of days.

Word has been received in Auckland from Sister U. B. Wilson, one of the four nurses sent from Sydney last year with the Australian Nursing Unit to assist in nursing work in Spain, that she has experienced all the vicissitudes of war conditions, mostly near Madrid, and that she expected shortly to be recalled to Australia to conduct a lecturing tour to raise funds for further relief work in Spain. Sister Wilson is the daughter of a former very well known family at Kihikihi, and was a pupil of both Kihikihi and Te Awamutu schools before going to Auckland and Australia. Her brother, Mr R. J. Wilson, was on the teaching staff of the Te Awamutu District High School about a dozen yearse ago.
