HOMAGE TO LATE KING

NEW ZEALAND’S ATTITUDE. An appeal to the people of New Zealand to show their affection for King George the Fifth in a tangible manner by subscribing to the nation - al memorial fund was made by Mr J. W. Heenan, Under-Secretary of Internal Affairs, at a citizens’ meeting at Eastbourne. “Two years ago the hundreds ol o millions of his peoples throughout the "Empire paid homage to King George the Fifth on the occasion of his Silver Jubilee,” said Mr Heenan. “A year ago these hundreds of millions were plunged into grief when he died. New Zealand was behind no other part of the Empire in paying its Silver Jubilee homage and that year later in manifesting its profound grief. By cur response to the Prime Minister’s Appeal will it be judged either that we were sincere or were merely giving lip service.”
