FIRST ROAD RACE. J. A. ROBINSON FASTEST. The Te Awamutu amateur cyclists bad their first competitive try-out last Saturday afternoon, when a field of 11 riders left the post office for the 111 mile ride, which finished along Park Road, just past the main entrance to Albert Park. W. L. Cooper and A. Coxhead were the first to go off, being followed by L. Liddington, L. Kerney and F. Cobb. The next to go were J. Robinson, G. Allan, H. McKenzie and A. Gyde, the scratch men being J. A. Robinson and li. Liddington. The back markers rode well and by the time Kihikihi township was reached had made up quite a bit of leeway. However, the limit men were riding well, and held their advantage, W. L. Cooper winning, while his co marker was 4secs back in second place, L. Liddington being third. Jack Robinson rode a great race from scratch to get fastest time, while G. Allen came home well for second fastest, these two riders doing the 111 miles in under 30 minutes. Details arc:— W. L. Cooper (34m 10s) 1. A Coxhead (34m 14s) 2, L. Liddington (32m) 3. Fastest time: J. A. Robinson (29 min.). Second fastest time: G. Allan (29 min 35secs.). H. Liddington was unfortunate in having trouble with • his chain, but finished in the creditable time ot 30 minutes. The club will conduct a race over tlie same course next Saturday, riders having to use gears under 70.
