GIRL GUIDES

MEETING OF COMMITTEE. The regular monthly meeting of the Te Awamutu Girl Guides Committee, held on Monday afternoon last, was presided over by Mrs C. G. Downes (the president). The meeting decided to send a letter to M]iss Frances Brooks, a loyal helper in Guide work (who has taken up a nursing appointment at Otahuhu) wishing her every success in her new sphere. Mrs Battson was unanimously appointed hon. treasurer, succeeding Mrs O. S. West, who has left the district.

Arrangements were made for a parade of Guides; and Brownies at the Anzac Day public service, the company to be under the charge of Captain M. Ross. Mrs Dc/wnes reported having asked Mrs Allen Bowler if she could accept appointment as captain of the local Guides, but that lady intimated that she could not accept the office, though she was still interested in the welfare cf the local Guides. Mrs H. Morton, of Te Kuiti, Commissioner of the District, handed over to the president the Herbert Smith Cup, and it was arranged that competition for possession of the trophy be left to the Guides to decide. The offer of Mrs Downes to make her home available for a card afternoon, to help the Guide funds, was gladly accepted. It was arranged that church parades be held o.n the rotation system, one being held each month, on dates to be arranged, but a preference was expressed for a 10 o’clock service as best suited to both Guiaes and Brownies.

Feeling expressions of sympathy with those affected by the outbreak of infantile paralysis in various parts of the South Auckland district were voiced, and reasonable precautions are to be urged upon all young people. As soon as the epidemic abates the Committee will give a party to the Guides and Brownies.
