THE GRANDSTAND

OFFICIAL OPENING ON SATURDAY. With four brass bands assisting, the procession through the streets on Saturday afternoon next, in connection with the official opening of the Albert Park Grandstand building should be an occasion in which there will be much interest and enjoyment. The arrangements altogether’ for affording fun for all are in capable hands, and the afternoon and evening should be the occasion for large assemblies. Children’s sports have been featured in the programme and it is expected that many competitors will come from the surrounding districts, and compete with the best from the town. Novelty items are also arranged for, including some of the brightest and most spectacular events ever seen in Te Awamutu. In the evening the gala will be continued, and special lighting effects are being provided at the park. There is to be a comic and novel procession through Alexandra Street, with everybody invited to join in and make for a merry two or three hours. As there, is need of funds to lessen the overdraft on the cost of building the grandstand—a building that assuredly will be an asset to Te Awamutu—an admission charge will be made to the afternoon function, but in the evening it is a case of “ free for all ” —and everybody welcome.
