GOOD TESTING RETURNS. AVERAGES FOR SEPTEMBER. The September figures for the N.Z. Herd Testing Association, just made available, show that the average from 86,393 cows for the month was 736 lbs milk, 4.37 test and 32 lbs fat; as compared with September last year, when 75,755 cows produced an average of 653 lbs milk, 4.34 test and 28 lbs fat. For September, 1934, the 82,029 cows under test averaged 745 lbs milk, 4.26 test and 32 lbs fat —almost identical figures with this year. The best individual producer was a cow in the Putaruru district which produced 114 lbs oi butter fat in the 30 days. The best herd figures were an average of 54 lbs fat from 76 cows in the Waitoa district. Herds in and around Te Awamutu measure up well with the Association averages in all respects. Te Awamutu group, with 860 cows, averaged 740 lbs milk, 4.52 test and 34 lbs fat. The best herd, 40 cows, averaged 48 lbs fat, and the best individual gave 93 lbs fat. The 1403 cows in Te Kawa group averaged .773 lbs milk, 4.52 test and 35 lbs fat. Two herds tied for top place, each with an average of 42 lbs fat, and the best cow gave 67 lbs fat. Paterangi group’s 863 cows averaged 761 lbs milk, 4.46 test, and 34 lbs fat. The best herd, 65 cows, averaged 42 lbs fat, and the best cow produced 89 lbs fat. The 3797 cows in Otorohanga group —the largest in the Association—averaged 683 lbs milk, 4.32 test and 30 lbs fat. The best herd average was 50 lbs fat from 21 cows, and the best cow gave 86 lbs fat. Hairini group’s 788 cows averaged 716 lbs milk, 4.74 test and 34 lbs fat. The best herd, 39 cows, averaged 46 lbs fat, and the best cow produced 71 lbs fat. The Kihikihi group figures were: 2147 cows averaged 748 lbs milk, 4.44 test and 33 lbs fat. The best herd average was 48 lbs fat from 62 cows, and the best individual gave 82 lbs fat. The 1889 cows in Kaipaki group averaged 768 lbs milk, 4.52 test and 35 lbs fat. The best herd, 35 cows, averaged 44 lbs fat, and the best cow gave 87 lbs fat. Kawhia group’s 639 cows averaged 785 lbs milk, 4.16 test and 33 lbs fat. The best herd average was 50 lbs fat from 25 cows, and the best cow produced 81 lbs fat.
