ELECTRICAL STORM
EXPERIENCE LAST WEDNESDAY. Accompanied by loud peals of thunder and bright flashes of lightning, heavy rain was experienced in the district early last Wednesday evening. Commencing at about 7.15 p.m., the rain registered .16 inches for the 24 hours ended 9 a.m. on Thursday. Evidence of the intensity of the lightning was witnessed at Pirongia, where the storm seemed to be most concentrated. The blowing of a transformer and several fuses interrupted the power supply for a time and several poles were struck. In one instance the lightning struck just below the cross-arms and travelled vertically down the pole within a few feet of the ground, splintering the wood and leaving a deep furrow two inches wide and one inch deep.
