SOCIAL AT PATERANGI

WEDDING GIFTS PRESENTED. There was a large assembly at the Paterangi Hall last evening for a social arranged in honour of Mr Keith Macky and Miss Win. Fear, who are shortly to be married. Dancing was the order of the evening to music supplied by Mrs Rothwell, and during the evening vocal duets were contributed by the Misses R. and G. Bell, of Pirongia, and a vocal solo byMiss P. Phelan. Opportunity was taken to convey to the guests of the evening the community’s good wishes for their future happiness, Messrs S. Germann, C. J. Spiers and S. C. Macky addressing them in appropriate terms. Mr Spiers referred to the Macky family’s association with the district for the past 65 years, adding that it would seem the long association would be continued for perhaps another 65 years, for Keith intended to continue his residence there. (Applause). All three speakers referred to Miss Fear’s popularity and the high esteem in which she is held in the district, where she will make her nsw home. Pokuvu’s loss would assuredly be Pater;angi’s gain. Mr Spiers invited them to accept a beautiful oak tray and silver tea. service, as tokens of goodwill, and expressed the hope that they would live long to use them. Mrs S. Germann then presented Miss Fear with a pretty posy, and Mr Keith Macky, on rising to acknowledge the gifts and the sentiments so charmingly expressed, said he and his bride-to-be were quite overwhelmed by the attentions they had received! He personally did not feel worthy of such prominence, for he had not taktn so prominent a part in the district’s affairs, especially during the past year or two, as perhaps he could have done. His uncle’s reference to him having “a good excuse” was appreciated in the spirit in which it was voiced; but as a married man he would try to be worthy of the kindly and encouraging remarks! (Applause.)
