'X' The Otorohanga Croquet Club officially opened its season under fine weather conditions, when the president, Mrs Smith, welcomed a large number of members and visitors. The - patroness, Mrs W. F. Small, and the Rev. F. Taylor are conducting the annual parish mission in connection with St. Bride’s Anglican Church. S ‘ HOCKEY CLUB’S BALL. The Otorohanga Hockey Club held its annual ball in the Town Hall on Tuesday evening, when fancy costumes were the order of the evening. The judging of these was undertaken by Mesdames Bonningtori and "Patterson. with the following results: Best girl, Mrs Austin; best boy, Mr J. Frew; N. Cantion was awarded a special prize for her impersonation of “Little Audrey.” “ Back"to chUa'- " hood ” costumes were numerous, Oi S provided considerable merriment. The music was provided by Swift’s Qrchestra, and Mr E. F. Fairbiotber was the principal master of ceremonies. . , An excellent and very dainty supper was served, amid charming- dequ-37 rations, in the annexe. - ' AJt, During an interval a hockey stick was presented to Mr M. Kite-as'the most improved player, and the Halliday Cup was Won by Mr J. Cowan as the most consistent player. Mf'-U. Hall was awarded the captain’s badge for the most unselfish player. WOMEN’S DIVISION. About 150 members aiid visitors attended the seventh birthday gather- - ing of Te Anga branch of the Wont- ' c-n’s Division in the local hall. The Dominion president, Mrs C. K.’.WiU son, was present, and also the following presidents of neighbouring branch - Divisions: Mrs J. C. Petersen' (Otoro- A hanga), Mrs Dent (Kinohakq), ,Mra a Davis (Kawhia), and Mrs Boddie (Te Kuiti). The birthday cake, made by Mrs Morley and iced by Miss Haylock, took pride of place at the heavilyladen luncheon tables, which' were ~ beautifully decorated with' sfAarruNrSU' and bowls of arum lilies ?nd Iceland poppies. The Dominion president (who received an ovation upon her appearance at the Hall) addressed the assemblage on matters of interest to. members, and emphasised the spirit of friendship thus engendered. She was presented with a beautiful- bouquet of flowers. Musical and vocal items were given by Mesdames Reid, Goldsborough. - Brandon, Dearlove, Phillips, Hunt,' 1 and Horneman. Mrs Miln (Te Anga) thanked the president for her presence and ipter-r esting and instructive address; and’fh'e visiting presidents extended a warm welcome to Mrs Wilson.
