TERRITORIAL BOUNDARIES

■ TE AWAMUTU AND WAITOMO BOARDS. The long-continued negotiations between the Te Awamutu and Wlaitomo Electric Power Boards for an adjustment of their territorial boundaries appears to be now approaching ityAt Friday’s meeting of Te Awamutu Board the chairman (Mr J. T. Johnson), reporting on the conference earlier in the month with members of the Waitomo Board re the proposed alterations in boundaries between the two Boards, said agreement had been reached affecting territory south of Pirongia and west of the Panetapu settlement (Wharepuhunga). Mr N. M. Lethbridge moved that approval be given to the agreement. The chairman explained that some sparsely-settled country was included, but he thought it would be workable by the Te Awamutu Board. As portions of the new territory were developed, Te Awamutu would extend its lines. To Mr J. B. Teasdale it was stated the Te Awamutu Board’s territory would extend to Te Rau-a-Moa, and would include the Honikiwi district. Approval of the arrangement was agreed to unanimously. The Waitomo Board will deal with it at its monthly meeting to-day at Te Kuiti. Mr S. C. B. Macky referred to the friendly spirit of negotiation at the conference. Possibly Wlaitomo was relieved of an obligation, and would benefit most, but Waitomo’s delegates were friendly and willing to negotiate amicably. He hoped the good relations apparent would continue always. The chairman concurred in the hope for continued friendliness, and referred to Te Awamutu’s willingness to assist Waitomo to extend its services at a later date into the present “ no man’s land ” between Wharepuhunga and Arohena. The Honikiwi area had been an “ outer area ” of Waitomo, and not in the same position as the W,harepuhunga-Arohena “ no man’s land.”
