LAWN TENNIS

TE AWAMUTU METHODIST CLUB. The official opening of Te Awamutu Methodist Tennis Club’s 1936-37 season took place last Saturday afternoon, under very pleasant auspices. There was an assemblage of about seventy players and friends, including visitors from Otorohanga Presbyterian, Dairy Factory, Te Awamutu, Kihikihi, Orakau, and Hairini clubs. The Rev. A. E. Jefferson accorded them a hearty welcome. Referring to prospects for the present season, Mr Jefferson said that last year had been eminently successful, and the present year promised to be even more so. He formally declared the season open by hitting the first ball over the net, amid hearty cheers.
