SOCIAL AND PERSONAL
Wellington advice states that Senia Chostiakoff, the Russian tenor, and Vincent Ryan, the popular radio comedian, who are due here for a personal visit shortly, will broadcast their farewell Wellington community concert through 2YA from the Wellington Town Hall on Tuesday, 27th instant.
The funeral of the late Mrs Doris Tucker, of Pokuru, took place this morning. After a short service at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church the large cortege proceeded to Te Awamutu cemetery, where the interment took place, and a very large number of floral emblems was placed on the grave.
A warm tribute to the memory of the late Mr F. F. ex-M.P. for Rotorua, and a prominent settler for some years at Parawera, was paid by the chairman (Mr A. T. Bryant) at the farmers’ meeting in Te Awamutu on Thursday. He said Mr Hockly was a prominent Farmers’ Union man practically from the Union’s inception, and he had maintained his active interest over a long term of years. Present-day members should remember with gratitude the self-sacrificing endeavours of the pioneer workers in the movement. At Mr Bryant’s invitation all present stood in silence in memory of deceased and in sympathy with Mrs Hockly and family.
