SON SHOOTS FATHER

ACCIDENT AT PATERANGI. Word was received in Te Awamutu yesterday morning that a Maori labourer named Thomas Wilson, employed on the farm of Messrs H. and S. Rhodes, Paterangi, had been shot accidentally by his 15 year old son. A doctor immediately proceeded to the scene and Wilson was removed to the Waikato Hospital by ambulance to have a pea rifle bullet extracted from the higher part of his left shoulder. From what can be gathered it seems that Wilson was engaged in clearing out a drain on the farm, while his son took a pea rifle to see if he could obtain a rabbit or two for the family meal. The lad returned and was standing on the bank of- the drain above where his father was working. Young Wilson attempted to extract the bullet from the rifle, when the hammer came down, discharging the bullet, which entered his father’s shoulder. The father suffered considerably from shock, but managed, with the aid of his son, to reach the home. After first aid measures had been applied, it was decided to send the wounded man to hospital to have the bullet extracted. Wilson’s condition was not regarded as serious.
