PARAWERA PROGRESS
WELFARE WORK ORGANISATION. A most enjoyable afternoon was spent by the Maori ladies of Parawera on Wednesday last, when arrangements were made for meetings, which would be for the general welfare of the women, to be held regularly. The gathering,, held in the Maori Pa Hall, which had been arranged and decorated with heather and daffodils, was opened with a devotional period led by Sister Nicholls, of the Methodist Maori Mission, following which she explained to the ladies the use of such meetings and the interest it would be to them all. Several ladies replied to Sister Nicholls, including Mesdames Jackson and McLean, saying that these meetings would be most valuable, and it was desired to hold them monthly. Mrs McLean was unanimously elected president and Mrs Simeon secretary. Mrs Bryant and Mrs Mihi Thompson gave demonstrations in rug and quilt-making and the usefulness of sugar-bags.
The ladies then thanked Sister Nicholls for the interest she had shown in organising these gatherings, and all who joined would be benefited.
