CRUSHED BY CAR
ORDEAL OF MAORI. Severe internal injuries were sustained by a Maori, Mr Pake Maunga, when his car ran over a bank at Kinohaku on Saturday evening. He is a young married man With several children living at KiHohaku, and the latter were in his car when it left the road. Mr Maunga was thrown outside the vehicle and below it on the bank. The vehicle finished up half poised on the steep, face, and Mr Maunga, exerting all his force, prevented it from rolling until his children had alighted. Just as the last one had reached the ground, however, a wheel slipped and the vehicle rolled over the top of Mr Maunga. A doctor was called out to see Mr Maunga on Sunday, and it was found he was suffering from internal injuries of a serious pature. He was removed to the Te Kuiti Hospital, where an urgent operation was performed, and he is at present progressing satisfactorily.
