REGENT THEATRE. AGAIN TO-NIGHT. “MOONLIGHT ON THE PRAIRIE.” " Moonlight on the Prairie,” the Warner Bros, picture at the Regent Theatre again to-night, introduces a new type of Western drama. It has all the rough riding, thrilling action, and daring situations of the old westerns, but adds to this the songs of the cowboys of the ranges in their saloon and dance hall rendezvous and around the camp-fires on the prairies and in the mountains at night. Besides old-time melodies, two new songs are introduced, strong with the flavour of the Old West. One is the theme song, “ Moonlight on the Prairie,” and the other song is called “ Covered Wagon Days.” Both are sung by Dick Foran, the singing cowboy, who is the star of the picture. Foran was born in the East, and is a graduate of Princeton University, but has spent many years in the West, and is adept at riding and throwing the lariat. SATURDAY AND MONDAY. “THE BRIDE COMES HOME.” Though her latest Paramount starring film, “ The Bride Comes Home,” is in no-sense a costume picture, Claudette Colbert nevertheless is photographed in several stunning creations designed for her by Travis Banton, noted American style creator. Miss Colbert’s new picture opens on Saturday at the Regent. The first piece of fabric Bantcn selected for the glamorous star’s new picture was a blue and white printed crepe. The designer, in choosing this fabric, reiterated his opinion that prints belong as much to autumn and winter as to summer. Under the same philosophy he said he would use velvet in cinema sequences where summer styles are predominant. A bride, a co-ed, a debutante, or a matron would be equally susceptible to the white satin pyjama which Miss Colbert wears in the film. Cut along simple lines, this costume clings alluringly to the figure, and is animated by a wide belt of huge flat pearl buttons sewn as closely together as possible. The neckline is open, and flaunts a scarf of satin with a flat pearl button here and there, car - j rying out the similar treatment of the belt. AT THE EMPIRE. COMMENCING TO-NIGHT. “ EXCLUSIVE STORY.” Franchot Tone heads the cast of “ Exclusive Story,” the big attraction at the local Empire Theatre beginning to-night and continuing to-mor-row and on Monday evening. Tone is no stranger, and by consistent performances in a varied assortment of roles he has won favour until now he is on the verge of stardom. In “ Exclusive Story ” he has ample scope for his ability, for it is a comedy of newspaper life that “ suits him to a T.” With Franchot Tone are Madge Evans and Stuart Erwin, two very talented and popular artists who give splendid support to Tone; in fact, at times it is hard to decide just which of the three is the principal. “ Exclusive Story ” is full of fun, it is fast-moving, and is melodramatic to a degree. There should be a very appreciative audience each evening “ Exclusive Story ” is screened in Te Awamutu.
