POINTS OF VIEW

UNMETALLED STREETS. Sir,—lf a councillor or otner leading citizen was told that in Te Awamutu there is a street, or portion of a street, within two hundred yards of the post office that has no metjl or even sand on it, the said councillor or citizen would probably think it was a joke. But I can assure you that to those who have to traverse lower Herbert Street it is anything but a joke. One car tried to negotiate the length of that street between Hawkins’ corner and the street at the bottom of the dip (I think it is Palmer Street on some maps) after rain an evening or two ago, and the occupants of the car had quite a nervy experience. Surely in a town of the importance of Te Awamutu the Borough Council should see to it that the street named is improved. I think sand would meet the needs of the situation—and that should not cost much, as the Council owns and controls a sand pit.—l am, etc., HOPEFUL.
