RETURNED SOLDIERS’ RE-UNION. (Our Resident Representative.) At the annual re-union of members of the Otorohanga branch of the Returned Soldiers’ Association there was an attendance of over a hundred, including visitors from Auckland, Te Avzamutu, Hamilton, Cambridge, Te Kuiti, and Taumarunui. The function took the form of a smoke concert, and the musical programme included songs by Messrs C. Russo (Cambridge), West, Anderson, and the Rev. K. R. Small; monologue items were contributed by Messrs P. 11. Gosse, Swain, and Lundon. RUGBY RESULTS. Otorohanga engaged United at Mangarongo during the week-end, and a fine game, under the control of Mr , Ben Carr, resulted in a draw, with the score standing at 6 all,. Otewa and Kio Kio contested an. interesting game on the Island Reserve, under the direction of Mr Tom McCready, Otewa winning by 14 points to 2. THE WEATHER. After seventeen consecutive frosts at Otorohanga welcome rain began to fall at noon yesterday, increasing in volume as the day wore on. Despite the frosts conditions have not been unpleasant, the days following being unusually bright, with an absence of wind or other wintry conditions. WOMEN’S DIVISION. Mrs J. C. Petersen, Maihiihi, presided over the June meeting of the Otorohanga branch of the Women’s Division, when there was a very good attendance of members. The resignation of the secretary. Miss Trott, of Kio Kio, was received with regret, and Mrs C. D. Horneman, of Whawharua, was elected to the vacancy. A delegation from the Farmers’ Union, headed by Messrs L. Palmer (president) and C. L. Browne (secretary), was received re a proposal to co-operate in an annual effort to promote a “ beaux and belles ” ball, to bring the members of both branches together and with a view to popularising the Union and increasing membership. The proposal was readily accepted by the Women’s Division, and arrangements put in train for the promotion of the first ball in the local Municipal Hall early next month.
