WAIPA ASSOCIATION’S ' COMPETITIONS

GAMES LAST SATURDAY

With six games at Albert Park, under the auspices of the Waipa Hockey Association, last Saturday afternoon, supporters of this form of sport had plenty to interest them. The play in some of the contests was bright and clean, and the matches were very well contested. FINCH ROSEBOWL Playing in the ladies’ competition for the Finch Rosebowl, Hairini were pitted against Paterangi, and a bright display ended in favour of Paterangi by four goals to two. For the winners goals were registered by E. Spiers (2), R. Spiers and K Karl, while Hairini’s goals were scored by Z. Spiers and N. Wilson. Messrs. C. J. Spiers and Phil. Spiers were the referees. Old Girls v. Korakonui.—This match, on No. 2 ground, ended in victory for Korakonui by three goals" (scored by J. Sutherland, C. Ray and K. Kerr) to two (R. Payne getting both).

Pirongia v. Otorohanga.—Messrs. T. Finch and P. Spiers referred this game, which provided a bright and interesting contest. The only score registered was one for Pirongia, netted by P. Sifleet. EMPSON CUP Pirongia v. High School.—Messrs. C. Reed and Ron. Spiers had charge ■ of this game, on No. 2 ground. The match ended in a draw, with two goals each. For Pirongia, Rowe and R. Head were the scorers, while for High School J. Moore and C. Dunn were responsible for a goal each. Paterangi v. Te Awamutu B.—Paterangi had the best of matters in the first half, during which Len. Spiers and Leo Karl each scored a goal, while Downie registered one for Te Awamutu. In the second half neither side could score, and thus victory went to Paterangi. Otorohanga v. Te Rahu.—This was a keenly contested match on No, 1. ground, and at half time the only score was that of J. Pye for Otorohanga. In the second half, one of the Otorohanga forwards also netted, the game thus ended in victory for the boys from south of the Puniu by two goals to. nil.
