OVERHANGING TREES

VICTORIA PARK BOUNDARY HEDGES. The need for cutting back some of the trees constituting shelter belts round Victoria Park was referred to at Monday’s meeting of the Borough Council.

Cr Wallace said complhint had been made to him about trees in Victoria Park overhanging adjoining property, in Teasdale Street.

Cr M'ontefiore also suggested that the high Lawsoniana trees ih the park, fronting Bank Street, should be topped to allow of more sunlight reaching adjoining properties. The Mayor thought some judicious topping could be done. Cr Brown said that in doing the work much damage was likely to be

done to the trees. The matter was referred to Crs Rainey and Brown, who are the Council’s representatives on the Beautifying Society. Cr Gifford voiced complaints of overhanging trees in Alexandra Street, and of blackberry bushes in Park Road. The Mayor said there was alsojfc need for improvement to hawthorn hedges in Kihikihi Road.

Cr M'ontefiore said barberry hedges encroach on the footpath in FrasVr Street, and this should be cut back by the property owner before the Works Committee tackles footpath work in the locality.
