INTERMEDIATE SCHOOL

RECOMMENDED' FOR ,TE AWAMUTU. The Tel Awamutu' District High School Committee, at Tuesday evening’s meeting, received with pleasure intimation that an Intermediate School has been recotnlmiehded for Te Awamutu.

The following letter was received from the secretary of the Board of Education, Auckland: “I am directed to inform you that the senior inspector has recommended the establishment of an Intermediate School at Ta Awamutu, and has recommended that your school should be one of the contributing, schools. This would mean that the pupils of forms 1 and 2 would 'attend the intermediate school. I am directed to ask you io be good enough to furnish your Committee’s views on the proposal, and to state whether the householders are in favour of the senior inspector’s suggestion.”

The Committee received the intimation with satisfaction, and asked the chairman, who is also chairman of the District Committee, to take all the steps possible at once to have the project pushed ahead witlhoult delay, in the hope that all arrangements can be completed in time to open the new Intermediate School after the midsummer holidays. It was stated' 1 that the subject of consolidated schools had Keen discussed at the recent Educational Conference in Wellington, when objection was raised to the Establishment of more; such schools until adequate provision has been made for the primary schools. He said the Conference was definitely not opposed to consolidated,schools, but. it considered better staffing and equipment for the primary schools and classes was more urgent Mr Shepehrd showed that in the kcal school there, are at least three classes, each with a roll of fifty or more, whereas competent authorities had laid it down that thirty should be the absolute maximum for efficiency.
