LONG SERVICE
MR GEO. SALTER RETIRES. After twenty-five years’ service on “ The Waipa Post ” (and its successor the “Te Awamutu Courier”), Mr Geo. Salter has retired, and to mark their appreciation of loyal, long and conscientious service, the staff assembled last Friday afternoon to make him a presentation, and express its goodwill for many years of healthy happiness and ease in his retirement. Mr A. G. Warburton asked both Mr and Mrs Salter to accept the goodwill gifts of a pair of beautifully designed fireside chairs, and referred to Mr Salter’s part in the development of “The Waipa Post,” having joined the staff actually a fortnight before the initial issue was made. Thereafter he had served in nearly all capacities—and always with a conscientiousness that won him esteem among fellow-work-ers and the public alike. It was regrettable that now indifferent health had compelled him to give up the trade with which he had been associated since boyhood, but he would take away with him sincere good wishes of all with whom he had been associated. Mr Salter, replying, said he relinquished duty with a lot of regrets, but he did look forward to enjoying the comfort of the fireside- a hope that was sure to be gratified, seeing that lie and his wife would have such cosy chairs to rest in.
