BOY SCOUTS
PROPOSED VISIT TO FIJI. A GOODWILL MISSION. Nine Boy Scouts from Matamata district will, under the leadership of Commissioner F. G. Southern, of Te Poi, leave on 26th May by the Niagara from Auckland to visit Fiji. They expect -to return to New' Zealand On 6th July, after spending nearly a month in the islands. The boys who will compose the party are Scouts Mervyn Ellery (Matamata), Douglas ’ Stanley (Matamata), Leslie Bellamy (Te Poi), Terence Leggatt (Putaruru), Ron Thirlwall (Matamata), Robert Briscoe (Te Poi), and R. Murphy (Putaruru). Mr Southern states that the trip is essentially a goodwill mission. No definite programme has been adopted, and the visit is primarily for the purpose of promoting international friendship, which is one of the essentials of the Scout movement. Fijian Boy Scouts have visited New Zealand on several occasions, and Mr Southern’s plans have received the warm approval of the Dominion headquarters of the movement in Christchurch.
